How is dental bonding performed?
Dental tooth bonding is one of the easiest procedures offered at our cosmetic dentistry practice. In just one visit, Dr. Douglas will apply the tooth-colored resin material to your enamel. She carefully molds the resin until it is reaches the desired shape and size. Then, a special curing lamp is used to harden the material within minutes. Many of our patients prefer bonding to other dental treatments because it can correct a wide variety of tooth problems without reducing natural enamel.
Should I choose dental bonding, a porcelain crown, or veneers?
Bonding is the least expensive, least invasive and quickest treatment. Veneers fall in the middle, and crowns are a good choice if a tooth’s structure or function has been compromised. Done in one office visit, bonding is generally used to correct minor imperfections; The other two treatments will require more time to complete. Dr. Douglas will recommend the cosmetic smile enhancement she feels will give you the best results. Depending on the degree of decay or damage, Dr. Douglas will let you know what to expect with each option and help you choose the one that’s right for your situation.

How should I care for newly bonded teeth?
You should treat bonded teeth just like natural teeth; however, remember that both the bonding material and natural enamel are susceptible to breakage. You’ll want to avoid very hard foods and chewing on objects like pens or pencils. Brush, floss and rinse just as often as you do your other teeth, and make sure you schedule regular dental visits to maintain a healthy mouth.
