Crowns
Teeth crowns are handcrafted restorations that fit over teeth to reinforce tooth structure. Crowns may be used in various cases of decay or injury where the natural tooth has been weakened but is still somewhat healthy and able to be saved. Dr. Douglas offers her New Jersey patients the benefit of porcelain as the material of choice for crowns. Our porcelain crowns are not only natural-looking because they reflect light like enamel and are closely matched to your tooth shade, they are also strong and durable and do a great job at protecting delicate or weakened tooth structure underneath.
The tooth enamel is reduced in preparation for the crown, and the crown is then placed over the tooth to cover all exposed enamel. Once your crown is securely in place and you’ve allowed the tooth to heal properly, you may use your crowned tooth to eat and chew like normal! Bridges
A bridge is often recommended for patients who are missing more than one tooth and need extra support. One or more crowns are custom made to fill in the missing tooth gaps, and then anchored to surrounding natural teeth for stability. A bridge offers the benefits of added strength and is permanently cemented in place. Many patients prefer bridgework to dentures because their restorations are not removable, require no extra maintenance, and can actually feel and function like natural teeth. Bridgework is also a great way to avoid the negative effects of missing teeth and provides necessary support to other teeth in the upper and lower arches.
